Seiya Tomita


Seiya Tomita is a Japanese professional shogi player ranked 5-dan.

Early life and apprenticeship

Tomita was born in Sanda, Hyōgo on February 13, 1996. He learned how to play shogi from his father when he was about five years old.
Tomita entered the Japan Shogi Association's apprentice school in September 2007 under the tutelage of shogi professional Kenji Kobayashi. He was promoted to the rank of apprentice professional 3-dan in April 2013 and obtained full professional status and the rank of 4-dan after finishing second in the 67th 3-dan League with a record of 14 wins and 4 losses.

Tomita graduated from the College of Business Administration of Ritsumeikan University in 2018. He is the first graduate of the university to become a professional shogi player.
