Sam Gutowitz


Samuel "Goody" Gutowitz was an American businessman and the founder of the recordstore chain.
He was born in Manhattan on February25, 1904, the eldest of three children of Fanny and ladies' tailor Julius Gutowitz, who was born in Poland.
He later legally changed his name to SamGoody.
In 1978, Gutowitz sold the SamGoody chain to the AmericanCan Company for $5.5million.
In 1940, Gutowitz married Sadie Deutsch. They had twosons, Howardand Barry, and twodaughters.
In 2015, for the filming of the HBO television series Vinyl, Martin Scorsese turned the Brooklyn branch of RoughTrade into a 1970s SamGoody store.
