European Parliament Committee on Security and Defence
The Committee on Security and Defence is a committee of the European Parliament. It is responsible for European security and defence policy, including institutions, capabilities and operations, as well as developing relations with strategic partners and third countries. During the Tenth European Parliament, the committee has 30 members and is chaired by Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann from Germany.
The body was initially formed as a subcommittee of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in 2004. On 18 December 2024, it was transformed into a full committee by decision of the European Parliament, with effect from 20 January 2025.
