History and name
The vineyard's name, "Clos," refers to its historical enclosure within a stone wall, a common practice in Burgundy to delineate vineyard boundaries. The term "Clos" also signifies wines produced exclusively from within the vineyard's area.Geography and terroir
Clos Marey-Monge is situated atop the dejection cone of the Avant-Dheune Valley, a unique geological feature that contributes to its distinctive terroir. The vineyard spans 20 hectares and is divided into seven distinct parcels, each with unique soil compositions and characteristics: Simone, Chantrerie, Les Paules, Grand Champs, 75 Rangs, Micault and Émilie.These individual plots are vinified separately to showcase their diverse expressions of Pinot Noir, Burgundy's flagship grape variety.
