Schneps Media

Schneps Media is a New York City-based media company founded in 1985 that owns and operates both print and online news services. Their first newspaper was The Queens Courier. The company's flagship publication since 2019 has been amNewYork, a free daily newspaper. The New York Times wrote in 2019 that Schneps publishes "more than 50 newspapers and magazines". They also have a unit named Schneps Media Events that operates seminars and conferences.

History

In 2017, Schneps purchased the Long Island Press from Morey Publishing. In October 2019 they acquired amNewYork from Newsday Media Group. Three months later they acquired Metro New York, merging the two papers under the current amNewYork Metro title. The purchase also included Metro Philadelphia.
In May 2024, the company acquired Anton Media Group. In July that same year the company acquired Blank Slate Media.
In July 2025, Schneps sold Metro Philadelphia, Metro.us and Philly Sports Network to O’Rourke Media Group.

Controversies

The company was criticized in 2019 for their involvement in One Brooklyn, a free mailing by then-Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams, described by Gothamist as "full of glowing stories about the borough president". Former Schneps reporters told Gothamist that "the Schneps owners forced them to write sponsored content, while shielding advertisers and local officials from critical coverage."
