Perception of illusory movement


Perception of illusory movement is a scholarly work, published in 1979 in ''Nature''. The main subjects of the publication include illusory contour, genetic polymorphism, optical illusion, motion, psychology, perception, visual perception, communication, illusion, color psychology, and cognitive psychology. The authors show here that, using figures consisting of stripes shaded from dark to light, arranged in repeating sectors, an illusion of movement can be induced in about 75% of observers when viewed peripherally.
