Otto Isidor Brunstein
Otto Isidor Brunstein was an Austrian lawyer who was active in the Duchy of Bukovina and Vienna during the late Austro-Hungarian and interwar periods.
Life and Career
Education and Legal Practice
Brunstein was born on 12 October 1886 in Radautz, Bukovina.After studying law, he obtained the title of Doctor. His professional competence was indicated by successfully passing the Judge's examination at the Higher Regional Court in Lemberg with a rating of "excellent success". He practiced law in Radautz, and then in Vienna, where he moved in 1913.
On 17 July 1939, following the Anschluss, he emigrated to the United Kingdom. He died in London on 2 March 1942, at the age of 55.
Military Service
During World War I, Brunstein held the rank of Landsturm Lieutenant in the Volunteer Automobile Corps. He was recognized with the Silver Bravery Medal Second Class. His duties included serving as a driving ordnance officer and an Auto-Referent at the Czybelka Group Command.Religious Status and Family
Brunstein was born into the Jewish faith. By 1920, and at the time of his marriage, records indicate he had converted to the Evangelical of the Augsburg Confession.He married Kamilla Reiss in Vienna on 26 November 1921. Kamilla Reiss was registered as being of the Jewish faith at the time of the marriage.
