Evidence that multinucleate giant cells are examples of mononuclear phagocytic differentiation is a scholarly work, published in 1986 in ''Journal of Pathology''. The main subjects of the publication include giant cell, peripheral blood mononuclear cell, macrophage activation syndrome, macrophage, biology, cell biology, multinucleate cell, and innate immune response. No evidence was found that multinucleate giant cells were metabolically effete, in fact they compared favourably with mononuclear phagocytes.
