Boonsin Padklang
Boonsin Padklang is a retired Royal Thai Army officer who served as the commander of the 2nd Army Area from 2024 to 2025, which covers Northeast Thailand.
Early life and education
Boonsin was born in Ban Dung district, Udon Thani province, Thailand, in 1965. His father, a junior police officer, inspired him to pursue a military career. He grew up and received his education in Ban Dung district, Udon Thani province, during the time his father was involved in counter-communist operations in the Cold War era.He attended the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School, Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy, and Royal Thai Army's Command and General Staff College.
2025 Cambodian–Thai border crisis and 2025 Thai political crisis
Boonsin's role in the 2025 Cambodian–Thai border crisis was criticized by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on a private phone call with Cambodian Senate President and former Prime Minister Hun Sen. The conversation was leaked, leading to criticism of Paethongtarn's leadership. Boonsin later spoke to Paetongtarn and noted “I informed the prime minister that I had no issue with her and that I understood her”.Following the leak of the phone call, the Bhumjaithai Party announced its withdrawal from the coalition government.
