Zachariah Ellis Coombes


Zachariah Ellis Coombes was an American lawyer, politician, and Confederate States Army officer in Texas. He served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives and was elected county judge of Dallas County during the late 19th century.

Early life

Coombes was born on March 30, 1833, in Nelson County, Kentucky. He later moved to Texas, settling in the Dallas area, where he pursued a career in law and public service.

Career

Coombes practiced law in Dallas County and became active in local and state politics. He was elected as county judge of Dallas County and also served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives.

Military service

During the American Civil War, Coombes served in the Confederate States Army and attained the rank of captain.

Death

Coombes died in 1895.
