History

Yanagimoto Station was opened on 11 May 1898 as a station on the Nara Railway. The line was transferrer to the Kansai Railway on 7 February 1905, which was subsequently nationalized on 1 October 1907. The current station building was completed in 1930. With the privatization of the Japan National Railways on 1 April 1987, the station was transferred to JR West. The station building was transferred to the city of Tenri in 2019, and was remodeled to include a cafe and retail spaces.
