History

A post office called White Oak was established in 1894. The community took its name from nearby White Oak Creek.
In 1898, Joseph Slingerland purchased 6,995 acres of land in White Oak and established a Shaker community there. The Shaker community in White Oak was the last Shaker community ever founded as well as the shortest-lived, lasting only until 1902.
