Notes The WTA Tournament of Champions was held from 2009–2014 until the WTA Elite Trophy replaced it in 2015. In 2009, the WTA German Open was abolished and replaced by the Madrid Open. In 2009, the Zurich Open was downgraded to a Premier event and replaced by the China Open. The first Premier 5 event of the year has switched back and forth between the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Qatar Open since 2009.
