Three Man Down

Three Man Down is a Thai pop-rock band formed by students from the Faculty of Communication Arts at Bangkok University. The band is signed under Gene Lab, a subsidiary of GMM Music.

History

2013–2014: Formation

Three Man Down was formed when Krit entered university and wanted to start a band. He met Thay, who agreed to form a band with him. Thay then invited his friends Toon and Ohm to join as well. Initially, the band played rock music.
Despite its name, they are not inspired by 3 Doors Down, the band's name, Three Man Down, originates from their previous experiences in high school, where they were involved in three separate bands that eventually disbanded when they started university. The name symbolizes the three "fallen" bands that led to the formation of Three Man Down.
Their journey began when they participated in the 5 GUM music competition, a collaboration between a day magazine and Believe Records, held at Siam Discovery. This gave them initial recognition. Following this, they continued competing in various contests, consistently advancing to the final rounds. However, their participation in Melody of Life became a turning point, shifting their focus from competitions to releasing original music.

2015–2018: Independent Releases Before Gene Lab

The band gained experience through multiple competitions, exposing them to different perspectives and musical influences. They decided to focus on producing their own music instead of competing. During his high schools years, Toon had written a song called "Sut Thang", which later inspired their songwriting.
Three Man Down released their first official single, "Kham Thamnai" , with a music video produced on a tight budget of just 20,000 THB. They later worked with SRP Label, releasing two songs: "Hey Josh... Phrung Ni Tong Luem Thoe" and "Wasted". However, the band struggled to establish their unique musical identity, leading to internal conflicts. Eventually, they collaborated with Soong Mattnimare, who became their producer and helped them refine their sound, which they later released "Downtown Pop " and "City ".

2018: Joining Gene Lab

Three Man Down continued releasing music independently until they competed in Band Lab, a talent search program initiated by Puntapol Prasarnrajkit under the newly established Gene Lab label. The band won second place and signed a contract with Gene Lab.

2018–2022: ''This City Won't Be Lonely Anymore''

In March 2021, Three Man Down released their debut album, This City Won't Be Lonely Anymore. The album title translates to "This City Won't Be Lonely Anymore" in Thai. Pre-orders opened on March 25, 2021, and sold out within the same day.
The album consists of 17 tracks, with the first single, "ข้างกัน ", released on December 6, 2017. The album includes several hit songs such as "ข้างกัน", "ผ่านตา ", "ไปเถอะเธอ", "ฝนตกไหม", "เลือกคนที่เขารักเรา", "ฝันถึงแฟนเก่า", "ถ้าเธอรักฉันจริง", "เดาไม่เก่ง", and "คุยคนเดียวเก่ง". The concept of the album portrays a metaphorical city, where each song represents a different district or neighborhood within that city.
Their first single under this album was "Everyday ", followed by "Ton Mai Dai Joe ", "Team Ro Thoe", and "Pai Thoe Thoe". However, these early releases did not gain significant popularity.
Their major breakthrough came with the song "Fon Tok Mai", which reached #1 on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, and JOOX. This success was followed by "Lueak Khon Thi Khao Rak Rao", which peaked at #7 on Spotify charts. Their next hit, "Fan Tueng Faen Kao", also climbed to #1 on Spotify, iTunes, and Apple Music. The band gained further recognition when they covered "Kuk Khao" by Cocktail for the soundtrack of the BL drama Hook.
In late 2020, they released "Tha Thoe Rak Chan Ching", which became widely popular, especially due to the viral phrase "Wad Dee Belle" from its music video. The song reached #1 on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, and JOOX.
In early 2021, they released "Dao Mai Keng", which sparked controversy as it was accused of resembling Owlet Lounge's song "Time Lapse". The band issued an apology, stating that the similarity was purely coincidental. Owlet Lounge also confirmed that they did not believe the song had been intentionally copied.

2022–2024: ''28''

On July 28, 2023, Three Man Down released their second studio album, 28. This album showcases a distinct shift in both musical style and lyrical themes, highlighting the band's evolution.
