Sunway Lagoon
Sunway Lagoon is an amusement park in Sunway City, Selangor, Malaysia. Owned by the Sunway Group, it officially opened on 29 April 1993.
History & Timeline
The park began operating in 24 October 1992. and was officially opened by former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad, on 29 April 1993. During the soft-opening, there are three parks opened between 1993 to 1995: Wet Park opened in 1993, followed by Dry Park in 1994, and Fort Lagoon Wild West in 1995. In 1998, the park introduced the 'Triple Loop' rollercoaster in 1997. Two years later, the ride was relocated to Flamingo Land.In 2003, several rides were renamed: Runaway Train renamed to Lost City of Gold, and Sky Flyer renamed to Tomahawk. Two attractions were added to Waters of Africa in 2005: Kalahari Kids and Voodoo Adventure River.
In 2006, Sunway Lagoon introduced the Annual Pass, which allows guests to enjoy free entry to the park for 365 days starting the next day of the purchase date. It follows the opening of the Galleon from Wonderland Sydney which was renamed Pirate Revenge in 2 January 2006. The indoor section, Scholar Rocks were introduced and located near the Flying Carpet ride. Among the rides opened at Scholar Rocks was Morphis Simulator opened in 3 January 2006. In July 2006, the Surf Beach was on refurbishment, adding the beach-like atmosphere like sand, palm trees and huts.
In 2007, the park saw two additional sections opened: Extreme Park and Wildlife Interactive Zoo. There are changes to the park such as removal of Flying Carpet where Tomahawk replaced it and Apache Pots is moved next to the escalator.
In April 2008, Scream Park was introduced in collaboration with Lynton V. Harris.
In 2009, the Chief Crazy Horse Carousel was shifted down to the Fun Fair section and renamed to Carousel.
In Water Park, the Tube Slide was removed to make way for the Vuvuzela, which opened in 2013 as the world's largest vortex waterslide during that time. Also added is FlowRider Surf Simulator in 2010; and Waterplexx 5D in 2012. Gang Slide was removed sometime in 2014.
The Scream Park features attractions which have changed over the years: Prison Break LIVE!-, Night at the Museum!, Terminator X, Horrorwood Studios, Horrorwood Studios 2: Zombie Apocalypse, World War Z! Live, Kevil Hill, The Ghostbusters Adventure Live!, Sharknado Alive, Hammer House of Horrors and Val Helsing.
During Christmas 2009, the park was opened at night with pay-per-ride attractions and spectacular night performance to usher in Christmas and the year-end festivities.
In Early 2013, Buffalo Bill Coaster, Niagara Falls Flume Ride and Shooting Gallery were removed. The Buffalo Bill Coaster shifted to the Lost World of Tambun and was renamed Lupes Adventure. Tracks are repainted from dark red to light green. The Buffalo structure is replaced with the Tiger. All ATMs were removed.
In October 2013, Sunway Lagoon launched its Halloween-themed festival, Nights of Fright.
In 2014, Cleopatra replaced Shooting Gallery from 20 May 2014. Fun Card is renamed to Annual Pass. The e-Load system is introduced. This allowed people to make cashless transactions conveniently within the park.
Sometime in 2015, two white lions, Zola and Zuri, were added to the Wildlife Park.
Cleopatra is replaced by The Mummy Revenge in 3Dx. However, the Mummy Revenge in 3Dx closed and that indoor section remained a locker. Only during the Night of Fright event the section is occupied with other haunted attractions.
In 2016, Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon introduced 13 water attractions through the collaboration between Sunway and Viacom‘s International Media Networks. It changed some of the former attractions: the Sun Lagoon Retail in Main Entrance replaced with Nickelodeon Store, while The Paintball War Zone and Mountain Bike were demolished. Wild Chase Coaster begins construction and testing. However, the Nickelodeon branding was discontinued in 2023, renaming the section to Sunway Lost Lagoon. The park also introduced white tigers to its wildlife park as the original location is too noisy.
The Volcano Fire Show at Surf Beach stopped sometime in 2017, but no reason was given for the termination.
The park were closed temporaily for several dates in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia. During lockdown, the Wild Chase Coaster was repainted from dark green to light green.
The park is considering extending park hours to provide guests with an amazing nightfall experiences. Originally scheduled in 2021, it was delayed until November 2022 due to lockdown. The first Night Park, themed as The Good, The Bad and The Wild compromising of Amusement and Wild West sections. The Night Zoo, Floating Stage and Flea Market were introduced as part of the Deepavali celebration in 2023. Traditional performances are held at the Amphitheatre during festive seasons, as well the fireworks during 2 selected nights.
In 2022, an additional zone was introduced to increase sustainability and climate change awareness. The SDG Walk is located outside Sunway Lost Lagoon. It stretches from Rimba to Wild Chase Coaster. The park's management team was deciding ways to enhance guests' experience to attract more visitors after a long period of lockdown imposed by the Malaysian government. These include planning the night park experience, developing staycation options, and hosting the Sunway Theme Parks Mega Roadshow at Sunway Malls nationwide, with the first roadshow was held from 17–20 February 2022. These road shows offer discounts for Annual Passes, Explorer Ranger Memberships, and tickets.
Staycations were introduced in late 2021 to enhance the guest experience for two consecutive days. The options include Camp Out! and Lagoon Villa. However the Camp Out! staycation is removed in 2024.
Farm Fresh at Sunway Lagoon started a partnership on December 5, 2022, as part of its plan to enhance theme park experiences.
In October 2023, Sunway Lagoon celebrated its Night of Fright 10th Anniversary.
New retail stores like Wilford Theme Park Store and Sheldonet Theme Park Store were opened. The Carnival Games are shifted to the Wild West section.
In July 2024, Sunway Theme Parks and Klook signed a Memorandum of Understanding to elevate the global allure of Sunway's renowned theme parks while boosting inbound tourism.
In late 2024, the Night Park underwent refurbishment and was renamed and rethemed as Captain Quack Land - A Night Park Experience. During refurbishment, buildings are repainted from brown-black to blue-red-white. Some of the rides have renamed during the same period: Colorado Splash renamed to Cannonball, and Wild Chase Coaster renamed to Wild Chase Water Coaster. Rock Climbing at Silent Cove was opened.
Surf Beach opens during the Raya Celebration. Firework displays are held on the Surf Stage on 4th and 5 April. This was the first time the water park section opened in the evening.
After nine years of construction, landscaping, painting and testing, the long-awaited Wild Chase Water Coaster opened on 10 May 2025. It follows the opening of kid-friendly train ride, named Night Express, as part of its Captain Quack Land- Night Park Experiences.
The Sunway City Kuala Lumpur Gallery opened at the Surf Deck tunnel in mid-2025.

Rides & Attractions
The park initially featured two main sections: Waters of Africa, offering 13 attractions, and Water Park, featuring 9 attractions. Waters of Africa includes two water playgrounds, Kalahari Kids and Little Zimbabwe. Additionally, the park is divided into two themed sections: Wild Wild West, which has four rides, and World of Adventure, which offers nine rides.The Wildlife Park is an interactive zoo that houses over 150 species. The animal sanctuaries within the park have distinct names, including Pet Village, Jungle Trail, and Bird Savannah.
It opened in 2016 as Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon, a Nickelodeon-themed and features 14 rides. However, the Nickelodeon branding was discontinued in 2023. Among the attractions are Captain's Splash Adventure, Jungle Fury, and Monsoon 360.

Concerts and events
Sunway Lagoon has hosted MTV World Stage and the Quicksilver Revolution Tour. Other notable concerts and performances include Peter Pan The Musical, Aladdin The Musical, deadmau5 performances, London: The Summer Musical, Beauty and the Beasts: The Musical, OneRepublic's Native Tour, Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs: The Musical and Pitbull.Other concerts and events held include: Lumi Ain in 2014, Trick Stars in 2015, the Walker World in June 2024 and the Pinkfish Festival on New Year's Eve.
