History

Shinji Station was opened on 7 November 1909 when the line was extended from Matsue Station on the Japan Government Railways. The line was further extended to on 6 October 1910. With the privatization of the Japan National Railway on 1 April 1987, the station came under the aegis of the West Japan Railway Company.
