Robert Jackson Bennett


Robert Jackson Bennett is an American writer of speculative fiction. His fantasy novel The Tainted Cup won the 2025 Hugo Award for Best Novel and the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel.

Early life and education

Robert Jackson Bennett was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from the University of Texas with special honors in English in 2005, and moved to Austin, Texas.

Career

Bennett's debut as an author was the novel Mr. Shivers. He went on to write The Company Man, The Troupe, and American Elsewhere.
Bennett's fifth novel, City of Stairs, was the first of a fantasy trilogy, The Divine Cities, followed by City of Blades and City of Miracles. The Divine Cities trilogy was a finalist for Best Series for the 2018 Hugo Awards.
In August 2018, Crown published Bennett's Foundryside, the first installment of his The Founders Trilogy. That book was followed by Shorefall in 2020 and Locklands in 2022.
In February 2024, Del Rey published Bennett's The Tainted Cup, the first book in his The Shadow of the Leviathan series, which won the 2025 Hugo Award for Best Novel. The book was followed by A Drop of Corruption in 2025; a third is planned.
