Rayya Makarim


Rayya Makarim is an American-born Indonesian screenwriter, producer, director, and actress.

Early life

Makarim was born on September 12, 1974, in Boston, Massachusetts. She is the sister of Nadiem Makarim, a businessman who served as a Minister of education, culture, research, and technology of Indonesia from 2019 until 2024.

Personal life

On April 23, 2020, Makarim was rumoured to be in a relationship with actor Zack Lee, the ex-husband of actress Nafa Urbach, after he posted photo of him kissing her on his Instagram.

Career

Makarim started her career as a screenwriter for Pasir Berbisik which starred Dian Sastrowardoyo and Christine Hakim. She continued to write a script for a few films such as: Rumah Ketujuh, Banyu Biru, Buffalo Boys, etc.
She directed Jermal which starred Didi Petet and became a producer for 27 Steps of May, as well as screenwriter. She became a screenwriter for Grisse, a television series which was produced by HBO.
