Background
The first power station was commissioned in 1983, amidst a global oil crisis which began in 1973. It was operated by the state-owned Philippine National Oil Company-Energy Development Corporation.The Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation would privatize the geothermal facility and place the facility under bidding.
Former PNOC affiliate, Energy Development Corporation which became fully privatized in 2007, took over the operations of the Palinpinon facility in October 2009.
