History
1985 - 1999
Onyria was founded in 1985 with the acquisition of 100 hectares in Quinta da Marinha.The Tourist Village of Quinta da Marinha was developed which included over 150 units. The tourist accommodation and 18-hole golf course were designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr..
During this time, Onyria acquired the restaurant Monte Mar on Estrada do Guincho. The health business Serviço Médico Permanente was also launched around this time.
Onyria acquired a shareholder position in Château des Vigiers, a hotel, golf, and country club in Monestier, France. The hotel Quinta da Marinha was opened in Cascais with 200 rooms.
2003 - 2011
Onyria purchased a property, Palmares in Lagos, Portugal. They also bought assets in the Meia-Praia area in Lagos. The planning, design, and approval of the Palmares resort development license were completed along with the construction of infrastructure and a golf course.Onyria expanded to Turkey and purchased a luxury resort in Turkey for 25 million euros, opening up the Onyria Claros Resort featuring a hotel, a spa, and a tourist village in Menderes, İzmir.
The boutique hotel, Onyria Marinha Edition Hotel, opened up with 72 rooms and 12 villas. A new golf course with 27 holes opened up in Algarve, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., son of Robert Trent Jones Sr..
José Carlos Pinto Coelho was awarded the Tourism Merit Medal in the Gold Category for his services to tourism in Portugal.The award was presented by the Minister of Economy and Labour, Álvaro Santos Pereira, and the Secretary of State for Tourism, Cecília Meireles, as part of World Tourism Day.
2012 - 2016
Onyria Marinha Edition Hotel won the Quality of Service award given by Turismo de Portugal.Onyria Golf Resorts won the IAGTO prize for Golf Tourism Supplier of the Year among 1,400 candidates from 85 countries.
Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort won the title of the country's best golf course in Portugal's 'national tourism Oscars' at the Publituris Portugal Travel Awards 2014.
The Onyria Palmares Beach House Hotel, a boutique hotel, was opened up in Algarve with 20 rooms.
Onyria Palmares Golf was ranked 21st in the Golf World's Top 100 Golf Courses list in Continental Europe.
Onyria took control of the Engel & Völkers franchise in Lagos, Portugal, Vila do Bispo, and Aljezur.
The company opened up the Monte Mar Lisboa, and the Monte Mar Time Out Market in Lisbon.
Onyria Group sold its hotel business in Turkey and the company disinvested in its boutique hotel in Cascais.
2017 - 2020
In 2018, Onyria Palmares Golf won the award for Best Golf Course in Portugal.Onyria opened up the restaurant Monte Mar Troia in Tróia along with a beach bar.
Onyria bought the Engel & Völkers franchise in Cascais and Estoril.
The boutique accommodation A House in Estoril was opened, and the architectural project Meia Praia Hotel & Residences was completed.
2021 - Present
The Natur Spa, a spa opened around this time.Onyria acquired all the holdings of companies associated with the expansion of the Monte Mar brand.
The company launched its Premium Selection – Senior Living offering in connection with the Permanent Medical Service.
The hotel received a silver medal for Best Overseas Hotel at the M&IT Awards.
Around this time, the company acquired the SMM- Serviços Médicos de Urgência, a healthcare service in Madeira.
Onyria re-acquired the Onyria Marinha Boutique Hotel.
SMP - Permanent Medical Service began to manage the Senior Residence Prof Maria Ofélia Leite Ribeiro, in Alcabideche.
The Monte Mar Lagos restaurant opened up in Ponta da Piedade.
The Onyria Quinta da Marinha Hotel won the silver medal for Best Overseas Hotel at the M&IT Awards.
The Onyria Quinta da Marinha Hotel won the Great Hotels of the World 2023 award in the Sustainable Events category, announced in 2024. The hotel won the silver prize in the Best Overseas Hotel category for the third consecutive year.
Onyria Resort was awarded the Best Hotel Resort at the Tourism Leaders Awards by TNews.
In 2025, Onyria entered into a new partnership with Intercontinental Hotels Group. Through a franchise agreement, the two Onyria hotels in Cascais joined the Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts portfolio. The agreement led to the creation of Onyria Marinha Cascais, Vignette Collection, which is already operating in partnership with IHG, and the Kimpton Quinta da Marinha Cascais, scheduled to open in 2026.
The company took over the management and hotel operations of Château des Vigiers, a luxury resort with 150 hectares in the Dordogne region of France.
