NGC 4653

NGC 4653 is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation of Virgo. Its velocity with respect to the cosmic microwave background is, which corresponds to a Hubble distance of. However, two non-redshift measurements give a closer distance of. It was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel on 11 April 1787.

NGC 4642 Group

NGC 4653 is a member of the NGC 4642 Group. This trio of galaxies includes NGC 4642 and NGC 4690. A study published in 2022 claims that NGC 4653 and NGC 4642 form a physical pair, separated by about 50 kpc, and that there is a high probability of a merger in the near future.
