Mir Ershad Ali

Mir Ershad Ali is a two-star Rear Admiral of Bangladesh Navy, currently serving as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff at Naval Headquarters. Prior to that, he was the Commander of Chattogram Naval Area and the Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. He also served as chairman of Mongla Port Authority and commander of Bangladesh Navy Fleet.

Military career

Ali was enlisted to Bangladesh Naval Academy in 1987 and was commissioned in executive branch as gunnery officer in 1989. Ali commanded one warship, two patrol crafts, the Bangladesh naval fleet and the Chittagong naval area. At naval headquarters he was the director of naval intelligence, naval training and operations, and furthermore director of multinational operations. Ali also served as naval secretary at Indian Ocean Naval Symposium. As commodore he commanded the western flotilla of Bangladesh Navy as the commander flotilla west. On 25 January 2022, Ali was ameliorated to rear admiral and appointed the chairman of Mongla port authority. He was designated as the director general of Bangladesh Coast Guard on 30 January 2024. Ali returned to naval headquarters in August 2025 as assistant chief of naval staff for personnel.

Ali is married to Sharmin Jahan and has 2 sons.
