MiHCM is a Sri Lankan multinational software company specializing in human resource management systems. Headquartered in Colombo, the company provides cloud-based HR solutions to enterprises and small businesses across South Asia and Southeast Asia. It is a spin-off of Microimage, a software company founded in 1995.

History

Early years (1995–2018)

The company traces its roots to 1995 when Harsha Purasinghe founded Microimage as a college startup. The company initially gained recognition for developing "Helawadana", a Sinhala font and word processing package for Windows 3.1.
Microimage later diversified into human resources software. In the mid-2010s, the company shifted its focus from on-premise software to cloud computing, launching a cloud-based HR platform.

Rebranding and expansion (2019–present)

In early 2019, Microimage HCM rebranded as MiHCM to reflect its expansion into global markets. The rebranding coincided with the company's push into the Southeast Asian market, establishing a regional hub in Malaysia.
In August 2024, MiHCM's Malaysian subsidiary was awarded "Malaysia Digital" status by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, recognizing its contribution to the country's digital ecosystem. As of 2025, the company reported serving over 1,000 clients across 20 countries.

Products and services

MiHCM operates on a Software as a Service model, primarily utilizing Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure. Its product portfolio includes:
MiHCM Enterprise: A human capital management suite designed for medium to large enterprises, covering core HR, payroll, talent management, and time attendance.
MiHCM Lite: A simplified HR platform tailored for small businesses.
MiA: An AI-powered virtual assistant for workplace tasks, integrated with Microsoft Teams.
SmartAssist: Introduced in 2024, this feature utilizes generative AI to automate routine HR tasks such as drafting letters and generating reports.

Operations

The company is headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with a regional hub in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It maintains a presence in several Asian markets, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Thailand.
MiHCM maintains strategic partnerships with regional technology integrators, including Tech One Global and Crayon Group. It is a long-standing Independent Software Vendor partner of Microsoft.

Awards and recognition

Microsoft ISV Partner of the Year: The company has won this award multiple times for the South East Asia New Markets region and Malaysia.
National Best Quality Software Awards : As Microimage, the company received several awards from the British Computer Society in its early years for its fonts and disaster warning systems.
