In the aftermath of the Round Table Agreement of 1989, the Polish People's Republic was abolished and the modern-day Republic of Poland was established on 31 December 1989 by the constitutional amendment. However, the incumbent term of the Sejm, elected at the [1989 Poland|Polish parliamentary election|1989 election], remained in position, until parliament dissolution and election of 1991.
