Juan Linietsky
Juan Linietsky is an Argentine software developer and game engine designer, best known as the co-creator and long-time lead developer of the Godot Engine, a free and open-source, cross-platform game engine used worldwide.
Early life
Linietsky was born in 1976 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He developed an interest in programming and video games from an early age.Career
In 2007, Linietsky co-founded the Godot Engine project together with Ariel Manzur, aiming to provide a free and open-source alternative to proprietary game engines. He has served as the lead developer since the project's inception, managing the engine's architecture and development roadmap.Godot supports both 2D and 3D game development, visual scripting, cross-platform deployment, and virtual reality integration.
The engine has been used in commercial projects, including Sega's development of Sonic Colours Ultimate.
In 2020, Godot received $250,000 in funding from Epic Games to support development.
In 2024, Godot introduced path tracing capabilities and further improvements for 3D rendering.
