Jeff Burningham


Jeff Burningham is an American entrepreneur, investor, author, and educator. He is the co-founder of Peak Capital Partners and Peak Ventures, and the author of The Last Book Written by a Human: Becoming Wise in the Age of AI. His career spans technology startups, venture capital, real estate investment, public service, and higher education.
Burningham is known for co-founding two Utah-based investment firms: Peak Capital Partners, a real estate investment company that appears in national rankings of multifamily housing owners, and Peak Ventures, an early-stage venture fund that has invested in several technology startups. He has also received media coverage for his 2020 gubernatorial campaign in Utah and for his 2025 book on artificial intelligence.

Early life and education

Burningham was raised in Spokane Valley, Washington. He later attended Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, where he studied communications. During his time as a student, he founded MindWire, a technology startup that was later acquired by a NASDAQ-listed company.

Career

Burningham founded MindWire while completing his undergraduate studies. Following its acquisition, he joined the acquiring company as an executive vice president.
In 2007, Burningham co-founded Peak Capital Partners, a private real estate investment firm headquartered in Provo, Utah. The firm invests primarily in multifamily housing and has been listed among the 50 largest apartment owners in the United States by the National Multifamily Housing Council.
Burningham also co-founded Peak Ventures, an early-stage venture capital fund focused on technology startups. In 2024, the fund announced a US$23 million investment round to support emerging companies across Utah and the United States.
In 2020, Burningham ran for Governor of Utah as a Republican, presenting himself as a business-focused political outsider.
Burningham teaches The Business of Life at Brigham Young University. The course emphasizes entrepreneurship, values-driven leadership, and personal development. He frequently brings founders, creators, and executives to speak to students.

Personal life

Burningham is active in his faith community has served as a bishop and draws on spiritual experiences in both his teaching and writing. He is married to Sally Burningham. They have four children and one grandchild. He has held leadership roles within his faith community and remains active as a mentor to entrepreneurs through board roles, public speaking, and advisory work.
