Fictional character biography

Jacob Shaw is the son of Cornelius Shaw and younger brother of Esau Shaw. In 1915, after the death of Cornelius, Esau is offered his father's place in the Hellfire Club, a position Jacob covets.
One night, Jacob meets Mister Sinister, who, for reasons unknown, grants him the power of shapeshifting. With this new power, Jacob takes the form of Hellfire Club member Waltham Pierce and murders Esau, hoping that with Esau dead, the Hellfire Club will seek Jacob to take his father's place. Instead, Union Jack arrests the real Pierce on charges of treason and murder.
Eventually, Jacob Shaw flees to Pennsylvania, where his son Sebastian is born. In his old age, Jacob contracts an incurable blood disease due to the alteration of his genetic code, which ultimately kills him.
