Helena Jahangir


Helena Jahangir is a Bangladeshi politician, actor, businesswoman and entrepreneur. She has been awarded by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a donor of the Rotary Club of Bangladesh. Helena is the Chairperson of IPTV Joyjatra Television. A total of 12,000 employees work in her various organizations. She ran for the post of executive member from the Mahmud Koli-Nipun Akhter panel in the 2024–26 biennial election of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association and failed.
Helena is a member and elected director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), the apex organization of businessmen and industrialists. She is also a member of BGMEA and BKMEA, two organizations of garment industry owners. She is also associated with Gulshan Club, Gulshan North Club, Baridhara Club, Comilla Club, Golf club, Gulshan All Community Club, BGMEA Apparel Club, Boat Club, Gulshan Ladies Club, Uttara Ladies Club, Gulshan Capital Club, Gulshan Society, Banani Society, Gulshan Joggers Society and Gulshan Health Club.

Early and educational life

Helena was born on August 29, 1974 in Tejgaon, Dhaka. She grew up in the Madarbari Sadarghat area of Halishahar, Chittagong. She got married husband Jahangir Alam in 1990. They have three children.

Career

Helena began her entrepreneurial life in 1996. she started a printing and embroidery business. Starting with Knit Concern Printing Unit Limited, she built Joy Auto Garments Limited, JC Embroidery and Printing and Humaira Sticker Limited under the Joyjatra Group. She is the managing director of all the organizations.

Political life

Helena was a member of the Awami League's Women's Affairs Subcommittee. She was exempted from the Awami League's Women's Affairs Subcommittee due to her involvement in an organization called 'Chakrijibi League', an associate organization of the Awami League. She was an advisor to the Comilla District Awami League. She also accompanied the Prime Minister on several foreign trips. Earlier, there were allegations of her involvement in Jatiya Party and BNP politics. She took the initiative to run for the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation in 2015 as a rival to the late Mayor Annisul Huq. she came into discussion by wanting to become an Awami League candidate in the by-election of the Comilla-5 constituency. she is a social worker Sister Helena She became known as Jahangir.

Controversy and arrest

RAB arrested Helena on July 29, 2021, in a fraud and extortion case. She also served two years in prison in this case.
