February 1953 Liechtenstein general election


General elections were held in Liechtenstein on 15 February 1953. The Progressive Citizens' Party won eight of the 15 seats in the Landtag, but remained in coalition with the Patriotic Union. This was the first and only election contested by the Workers' and [Peasants' Party |Workers' and Peasants' Party]. Voter turnout was 90.5%, although only male citizens were allowed to vote.

Electoral system

The 15 members of the Landtag were elected by open list proportional representation from two constituencies, Oberland with 9 seats and Unterland with 6 seats. Only parties and lists with more than 18% of the votes cast in each constituency were eligible to win seats in the Landtag. Only male citizens were eligible to vote.
