Evarcha werneri
Evarcha werneri is a species of spider in the family Salticidae. It is found in Guinea, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Namibia, and South Africa and is commonly known as Werner's Evarcha jumping spider.
Distribution
Evarcha werneri is found in Guinea, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Namibia, and South Africa.
In South Africa, it is known from KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.
Specimens were sampled from pitfall traps and sweeping grass in the Savanna Biome at altitudes ranging from 16 to 1360 m.
Conservation
Evarcha werneri is protected in Ndumo Game Reserve and Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa.
Taxonomy
The species was originally described as Stenaelurillus werneri from Sudan in 1906. It was transferred to Evarcha by Logunov and Azarkina in 2018, with Evarcha elegans being synonymized. Both sexes are known.
