Purty Rock, New Mexico


Purty Rock is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in McKinley [County, New Mexico|McKinley County], New Mexico, United States. As of the 2020 [United States census|2020 census], it had a population of 163.

Geography

The CDP is in the western part of McKinley County, on the south side of the valley of the Puerco River, a west-flowing tributary of the Little [Colorado River]. Purty Rock, a butte, is to the south. The CDP includes the unincorporated community of Defiance along a former alignment of U.S. Route 66. Interstate 40 passes through the CDP, with access from Exit 16, to the east, or from Exit 8, to the southwest. Gallup, the McKinley county seat, is to the east.
