Aslam Rana


Aslam Rana is a Canadian politician from the Liberal Party of Canada. He was elected Member of Parliament for Hamilton Centre in the 2025 Canadian federal election. He defeated the NDP after over 20 years of them holding the seat. He is of Pakistani descent.

Early and personal life

Rana immigrated to Canada from Pakistan in 2003. He is the father of five children.
Rana is a civil engineer, with a master's degree from Toronto Metropolitan University.
Prior to his election, Rana was a resident of Mississauga, Ontario.

Political career

Rana was one of three new Members of Parliament elected in Hamilton, Ontario during the 2025 election.
Rana received support from Prime Minister Mark Carney during the 2025 election campaign, who visited Hamilton Centre twice on campaign stops.
Rana's victory was notable, as it represented the loss of a longtime NDP stronghold, previously held by MPs Matthew Green and David Christopherson.
Following his victory in 2025, Rana stated that he would focus on housing and infrastructure in Hamilton Centre, drawing on his engineering background.
