2009 Liechtenstein general election

General elections were held in Liechtenstein on 8 February 2009 to elect the 25 members of the Landtag. The Patriotic Union won a majority of thirteen seats, with the Progressive Citizens' Party winning eleven. The Free List won one seat. Voter turnout was 86.6%.
Incumbent Prime Minister Otmar Hasler sought re-election for a third term, and was re-nominated by the FBP on 4 October 2008. Incumbent deputy prime minister Klaus Tschütscher was re-nominated as the party's candidate for prime minister. Following the election, Hasler resigned and the two parties entered into a renewed coalition government under Tschütscher.

Electoral system

The 25 members of the Landtag were elected by open list proportional representation from two constituencies, Oberland with 15 seats and Unterland with 10 seats. Only parties and lists with more than 8% of the votes cast in each constituency were eligible to win seats in the Landtag.
