Ylva Karlsson
Ylva Karlsson is a Swedish children's writer. She received the Astrid Lindgren Prize in 2021. She was a member of the Swedish Academy for Children's Books from 2009 to 2012. She was born in Hallonbergen and now lives in Bagarmossen.
She made her literary debut at the age of 20 with the novel Tova, for which she received the Slangbellan prize. She wrote the book as an 18-year-old, and it depicts a 17-year-old girl's problem-filled summer, where she is let down by her mother and abandoned by her boyfriend. The trilogy about the eight-year-old Malin is everyday realism, but she has also written art adventures and fantasy books. She was nominated to the Nordic Council Children and Young [People's Literature Prize] in 2021.
She holds a degree in literature from Stockholm University.
