Early life and education

William Shepard Bryan, Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the progeny of Judge William S. Bryan and Elizabeth Edmondson Hayward. Legal career

Bryan's legal career began after his admission to the Maryland bar in 1882. His early practice included a mix of private legal work and appointments to various municipal legal roles. In 1903, Bryan's legal influence expanded when he was appointed as the Attorney General of Maryland, a role in which he served until 1907.
