Valley Timberwolves
The Renfrew Timberwolves are a Canadian junior ice hockey team from Renfrew, Ontario. They played in the Eastern Ontario [Junior Hockey League] until the league was re-branded the Central Canada Hockey League [Tier 2 |Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2 (CCHL2)] 2015.
History
The Renfrew Jr. B Timberwolves came into existence in 1967 as the Renfrew Lions, sponsored by The Renfrew Lions Club and captured their first Eastern Ontario Championship that year.In the early 1970s, Renfrew's Junior team became the Timberwolves and the team has since captured 8 other Eastern Ontario Titles; 1977, 1988, 1990 and 1993.
Banners on the wall at Ma-Te-Way Arena also include 8 Valley Division Titles and 4 Boxing Day Tournament Titles which all attest to the success that the team has enjoyed over the years. Not only has the team been successful as a community group, but many individual players have gone on to University, Semi-pro, or Professional Teams.
The franchise which once of 22 teams now down currently to 13 in the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League, and is one of six teams in the Valley Division. The league was divided into two conferences and four divisions; The Metro-Valley and the Rideau-St. Lawrence. Now these divisions have been renamed the Martin and Richardson Divisions.
In 2017 on October, 27th, 2017 tragedy forever shaped the small knit hockey community when 4 local young hockey players from the Timberwolves were involved in a car accident later determined to be alcohol related. They were honoured that season with there numbers hung in the rafters and number patches stenciled under the ice they once skated.
Later that year they made the playoffs and in a hard fought series won in emotional fashion before being swept in the next round.
Since then the Timberwolves have had numerous staff changes as well as new ownership and a new ice rink once they departed Eganville after a unsuccessful short tenure to give Renfrew it's beloved team again.
This past season 2024-2025 they showed excellence as they made franchise history with there first Division Title leading the team to a regular season franchise record 30 wins as they posted a season although they fell short in the division quarter finals to end there year.
