Travis Bradford


Travis Bradford is an American academic and author specializing in energy markets and sustainable development. He is a Professor of Professional Practice at Columbia University, where he holds joint appointments at the Columbia Business School, the Earth Institute, and the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA).

Career

Bradford's work focuses on the intersection of energy technology, environmental markets, and financial innovation. He is the founder and president of the Prometheus Institute for Sustainable Development. Through the institute, he helped launch the cleantech research firm Greentech Media and the Carbon War Room, a global initiative founded by Richard Branson to implement market-driven solutions to climate change.
Prior to joining Columbia, he held teaching positions at the University of Chicago and Duke University. He has served as a reviewer for the IPCC and is an annual contributor to the REN21 Global Status Report.

Education

Bradford earned a B.A. in finance from Georgia State University and an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business. In 2006, he received a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.

Scholarship and Publications

Bradford is the author of two major works on energy economics published by MIT Press:Solar Revolution: The Economic Transformation of the Global Energy Industry. ISBN 978-0262026048. The work was praised by environmentalist Bill McKibben in The New York Review of Books for its researched and hopeful analysis of solar economics. It is noted for using business forecasting to argue for the inevitability of solar energy dominance.The Energy System: Technology, Economics, Markets, and Policy. ISBN 978-0262037525. This 1,200-page work serves as a comprehensive systems-perspective textbook for global energy transitions.

Personal life

Bradford and his wife Anu Bradford have three children.
