- Prehispanic or native era This begins with the fourth millennium before Christ It is the longest era of Peruvian history. Inca era This begins with the emergence of the Inca Empire or Tawantinsuyo by the Inca Pachacuti and ends with the year of 1532.
- Hispanic and viceroyal era Starting with the year of 1532 and ending with the year of 1824.
- Republican and independent era Starting with the 28th of July 1821, with the Peruvian War of Independence, until the current day.
