Tian Thala
Tian Thala was the thirtieth king of Lan Xang who ruled for a brief period in the 1690s. Most sources place his reign between 1690 and 1695, though some traditions claim he reigned for only six months in 1694 or 1695.
Tian Thala was from a distinguished noble family unconnected to the royal dynasty. He rose through the administration under King Sourigna Vongsa and was appointed Prime Minister with the title Phya Muang Chandra.
Following the death of Sourigna Vongsa in c. 1690, Tian Thala seized the throne. Around 1694 he attempted to strengthen his legitimacy by marrying Sourigna Vongsa’s younger daughter, Princess Suman Kumari. His rule remained unpopular with both the populace and the principal nobles, who never fully accepted his claim.
He was deposed in 1695 by Nan Tharat, the governor of Nakhone and later king of Lan Xang.
