The Stripper (novel)


The Stripper is a 1961 Australian novel by Carter Brown which was adapted into a musical.
The plot involves Al Wheeler called to a hotel where a young woman, Patty Keller is on the ledge of the fifteenth floor. She decides to come in but then collapses and falls to her death.
The Age said it "was as good as most yarns of this kind originating overseas."

Musical

The novel was turned into a 1982 stage musical with lyrics by Richard O'Brien and music by Richard Hartley. It premiered at the Sydney Theatre Company directed by Brian Thomson.
A cast album was released.
The musical was revived in London in 2009 and 2016.
