Premise

Cliff Hardy is hired to guard a minister of the crown.

Reception

The Age wrote "the story moves well enough but the characters seem to have come out of a glossy magazine for women."
The Sydney Morning Herald felt "Corris, normally the most fluent of storytellers, stumbles through The January Zone unsure of his direction."
The Canberra Times said the novel was "not the best in the Hardy series. Some characters remain unusually flat and drab, the political sub-plots
are trite, and the action some times stops abruptly or drifts off into inconsequential interludes. But the author still enjoys and deploys a rich range of talent."
