The Best Summer

The Best Summer is a 2026 documentary film directed and produced by Tamra Davis, with Shelby Meade as producer. It is scheduled to have its world premiere in the Midnight section at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.

Premise

Using immersive point-of-view footage, the film presents performances and backstage material featuring bands including the Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, Foo Fighters, Pavement, Rancid, Beck, The Amps, and Bikini Kill, documenting a 1995 Australian indie music festival tour, Summersault.

Release

The Best Summer is scheduled to premiere as a world premiere in Sundance's Midnight section at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and will be available online to the public from January 29 to February 1, 2026.

Production

The film is assembled from videotapes Davis shot in 1995 and later rediscovered in January 2025 while evacuating from the Palisades fires.
