Teresa Adams
Teresa Adams was an American civil rights activist and suffragist.
Biography
Adams was born in Keokuk, Iowa, about 1869, and moved with her sister to Davenport, Iowa, in 1895.She was African-American and joined Civil and [political rights|civil rights] organizations, including the Toussaint L'Ouverture Club. In 1914, when the Iowa Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, later known as the Iowa Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, established a standing suffrage committee Adams was its leader. She travelled throughout Iowa to give speeches on behalf of the committee.
Adams died in Manteno, Illinois, in 1947.
