Sold a Story is a serial podcast about the rise and fall of balanced literacy and other non-research-based methods of teaching children to read. It was distributed by American [Public Media] and created by Emily Hanford. It was wildly popular, with over 3.5 million downloads in 2023 alone, and has been credited with helping accelerate the rise of phonics-based education and the fall of whole language.
