Shameem Haidar


Shameem Haidar is a Rheumatologist and Major General in the Bangladesh Army. He is the DG of Directorate General of Drug Administration.

Career

Shamim Haider obtained his MBBS degree from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College in 1990 and was commissioned into the Medical Corps of the Bangladesh Army on 9 July 1991.
He completed his grading in medicine from AFMI in 1997 and obtained his FCPS degree from Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2012. He has completed Fellowship Training in Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology from Akhil Bharatiya Ayurvedic Sansthan.
He served at MDS Khagrachhari, CMH Jalalabad, Savar, Bogra, Chittagong, Dhaka and Jessore.
On 1 August 2023, he was promoted to Major General and was assigned as Consultant Physician General in the Directorate General of Military Medical Services until 19 October 2024.
He joined the Directorate General of Drug Administration as Director General on 22 October 2024. He served as the Head of Department and Chief Physician at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital.

UN Peacekeeping Missions

Shamim Haider served as a medical specialist in the UN Peacekeeping Mission Banmed-1 in the Central African Republic.

Family Life

Shamim Haider is married to Nasima Akhter Chowdhury, a professor and head of the Philosophy Department at the Government Titumir College. The couple's only son, Ryan Ibtesham Chowdhury, is an expatriate in the United Kingdom.
