Shalikha Upazila


Shalikha is an upazila of Magura District in the Division of Khulna, Bangladesh.

Shalikha is located at. It has 36,905 households and total area 228.65 km2.

Demographics

According to the 2022 Bangladeshi census, Shalikha Upazila had 45,446 households and a population of 179,666. 9.05% were under 5 years of age. Shalikha had a literacy rate of 72.56%: 75.37% for males and 69.91% for females, with a sex ratio of 95.55 males per 100 females. 16,412 lived in urban areas. Ethnic population was 3,430.
As of the 2011 Census of Bangladesh, Shalikha upazila had 36,905 households and a population of 163,658. 34,571 were under 10 years of age. Shalikha had an average literacy rate of 49.0%, compared to the national average of 51.8%, and a sex ratio of 1007 females per 1000 males. 7,155 of the population lived in urban areas. Ethnic population was 4,518.
As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Shalikha has a population of 132291. Males constitute 51.05% of the population, and females 48.95%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 66748. Shalikha has an average literacy rate of 25%, and the national average of 32.4% literate.

Administration

Shalikha Upazila is divided into seven union parishads: Arpara, Bunagati, Dhaneswargati, Gongarampur, Shalikha, Shatakhali, and Talkhari. The union parishads are subdivided into 100 mauzas and 118 villages.
