Seema Kapoor
Seema Kapoor is an Indian filmmaker and writer known for her contributions to cinema and television. She is the sister of director and playwright Ranjit Kapoor, actor and television personality Annu Kapoor, and filmmaker Nikhil Kapoor.

Writing and direction
Kapoor began her career in the entertainment industry with a deep connection to theatre, as her father ran a theatre company in Delhi. Over time, she transitioned into filmmaking and writing, working across various formats, including feature films, documentaries, and television serials.In 2017, Kapoor directed the feature film Mr. Kabadi, a satirical comedy featuring her late ex-husband, actor Om Puri. The film was among Puri's final works. Kapoor has also worked on documentaries and television projects. In 2024, she directed Avantika, a historical TV serial that aired on Doordarshan.
In 2024, Kapoor released her autobiography, Yun Guzri Hai Ab Talak, a memoir she had been writing for several decades. The book reflects on personal experiences, including her relationship with Om Puri, the loss of her child, and her journey of self-rebuilding. It also includes narratives about her family history, such as her brother Ranjit Kapoor’s kidnapping in 1965 and her father’s contributions to theatre. Kapoor started documenting her memories in a magazine column before compiling them into a book, a process that took 24 years.
Kapoor is currently working on her next feature film, along with other creative endeavors in filmmaking and writing.
Language coaching and mentoring
In addition to her work in theatre, film, and television, Kapoor has also worked as a Hindi diction and language coach. She taught actress Janhvi Kapoor prior to her debut film Dhadak. In 2025, Kapoor publicly defended Janhvi Kapoor against online criticism regarding her Hindi language skills, describing such attacks as immature.Autobiography
In March 2025, Kapoor launched her autobiography Yun Guzri Hai Ab Talak at a ceremony attended by notable film personalities including Boney Kapoor, Annu Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Paresh Rawal, Raghubir Yadav, Divya Dutta, Bharti Lavekar, and Jaspinder Narula. Relationship with Om Puri
Early relationship
Kapoor first met Om Puri in August 1979 during a visit to Mumbai with her brother, Ranjit Kapoor, shortly after she began her college studies. Their relationship developed over several years despite their age difference.Marriage & separation
Kapoor was married to actor Om Puri from 1990 to 1993. The marriage ended after Puri admitted to an affair with journalist Nandita Chaudhary, following which Kapoor left the relationship. At the time of the separation, she was three months pregnant, and later stated that the emotional trauma resulted in the loss of her baby.In 2010, it was reported that Puri attended Seema Kapoor’s birthday celebration, and his then-wife Nandita Puri stated that she felt uncomfortable with his close association with his former spouse, commenting that it bothered her.
In late 2010, Om Puri and Seema Kapoor jointly purchased land in Kapoor’s native town of Jhalawar, Rajasthan, where they planned to build a house. The property was registered on 26 October 2010 in Jhalawar.
