Scythris krooni

Scythris krooni is a species of moth in the family Scythrididae. It was described by Bengt Å. Bengtsson in 2014 and is endemic to the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Description

Scythris krooni has a wingspan of approximately 12 mm. The forewings are greyish-brown with subtle lighter streaks and speckling, while the hindwings are uniformly grey. Like other members of its genus, it has narrow wings and long antennae characteristic of scythridid moths.

Distribution and habitat

This species is known only from several localities within the Western Cape, South Africa. It inhabits areas of fynbos vegetation, a biodiversity hotspot known for its unique flora. The exact range and habitat preferences of this moth remain poorly documented.

Ecology

The larval host plants of S. krooni are currently unknown. Adult moths are likely active during the warmer months, as with other scythridids, but further field studies are needed to confirm its life history and ecological interactions.

Etymology

The species is named in honour of Dawie Kroon, a South African lepidopterist, in recognition of his contributions to the study of South African moths.
