Samuel Zane Batten

Samuel Zane Batten was a Baptist minister and educator.

Biography

Batten graduated from Bucknell University in 1885, and served as a Baptist minister in Morristown, New Jersey, where he preached against alcohol consumption and gambling. He was an adamant proponent of democracy for its Christian appeal. In 1908, he established the Commission on Social Service of the American [Baptist Association]. In 1913, he joined the faculty of what would become the School of [Social Policy and Practice|University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice].
He was a member of the Brotherhood of the Kingdom.
