As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 7,577 and a density of 69.49 persons per km2. The total area was 109.03 km2.History
On March 31, 2005, Sakutō, along with the towns of Mimasaka, Aida and Ōhara, the village of Higashiawakura, and the town of Katsuta, was merged to create the city of Mimasaka.Geography
